Remember a few months back when I got a new shift knob? Turns out adding an inch to the length of the shifter and taking out half of the weight has detrimental effects on feel. Today while swapping back on the old knob to bring it to the dealer in a couple of weeks, the thought occurred to go drive it to see if it made a difference...

Don’t get a shift knob from CJPP unless it is weighted and doesn’t require a lockout extender even if it looks cool. It feels good as new without the CJPP knob, well, once it’s warmed up. I feel like a dumbass.

There are still some things I’m going to bring up to the dealer, but they are just smallish things like the passenger seat being loose and the bezel rattling and the usb thing making static noise.

Obviously your real problem was only adding an inch. Orlove could help you out:

I never realized the weight of the knob could alter the feel and function of a transmission.

I didn’t either, but it feels night and day different. I think the added length is what did it.

In MiataWorld, the wooden Nardi Evolution knobs found on NAs was notorious for having crappy gearshift feel because it weighed half as much as the standard knob. I went with the later teardrop style not only for rarity, but because it weighs just as much as the stock knob so I felt at home with it.

Yeah, it feels okay now. I just want a short shifter now, because the throws are too long.

Good luck getting them to do anything about rattles. I brought in my brand new Mustang about interior rattles in 2013 and the dealer looked at me like I deer caught in headlights.

My bezel is incredibly loose, and a loose seat is a safety hazard, so maybe.

Are the bolts holding the seat tightened down? I caught a Miata at an autocross tech inspection that was missing an entire bolt on the driver’s side.

Here’s anew shift knob for you. I did see one like it in another Ford. However that one sat lower, and was pretty rusty, and was upholstered with coffee bean bags, and had an old ratty V8.

The stock one is actually really good, I just wanted a que ball. Turns out, I should have just saved the money.
